November is GERD Awareness Month. GERD can also be known as gastroesophageal reflux disease. Each year around the week of Thanksgiving, GERD sufferers are likely to experience an increase in symptoms such as heartburn, coughing and nausea.
Untreated, GERD can lead to several health complications, from ulcers and inflammation to even cancer. Often times, your primary care physician will recommend surgery if it progresses.
