For GERD patients, tomato-based sauces can sometimes induce reflux symptoms.
Dennis was able to add spaghetti with meat sauce back into his diet after his TIF procedure. Here he describes his recipe–note that he only says “spices” without getting specific. I guess his recipe will stay a secret.
We’ve collected two types of recipes: classics and reflux friendly alternatives.
Reflux offender version
GERD Friendly version
|Donatelli’s Meat Sauce (seems closest to Dennis’ description)||Dr. Gourmet’s Low Acid Tomato Sauce (note the addition of baking soda to neutralize the tomato-based ingredients)|
|Cooks.com’s Spaghetti and Meat Sauce (this one has chili powder for extra kick)||Sharon Gillson’s Meatballs and pasta About.com (note low fat meat is at the heart of this receipe)|
Dennis says…”Brown the hamburger…put the spices on the meat while it’s cooking and drain it…add in the tomato paste and tomato sauce plus a variety of spices we have…you can tell the sauce is ready when it smells really good.”
